The demographics of our customers are rapidly changing in accordance with the overall population shifts in Michigan. BCBSM is committed to addressing the needs of our state's increasingly diverse population.
We are developing new approaches to the challenge of ensuring that all Michigan citizens have access to reasonably priced, quality health care. We are also creating new products and services to meet the diverse needs of the marketplace. For example, we recently introduced products that speak to the needs of varying age groups and reward members for adopting healthier lifestyles:
Individual
- Young Adult Blue MaxSM: A new product specifically designed for individuals between the ages of 19 and 30
Medicare
- Medicare Plus Blue PPO VitalitySM, Medicare Plus Blue PPO AssureSM: Two new Medicare Advantage PPO products.
Employer-provided
- Simply BlueSM: A variety of options from comprehensive PPO plans to innovative consumer-directed health plans.
- Healthy Blue OutcomesSM: Healthy Blue Outcomes provides quality PPO health care coverage for:
- Illness
- Injuries
- Wellness benefits, including $1,000 per member for preventive care
- Healthy Blue Living RewardsSM: Michigan's first outcomes-based HMO plan that rewards people with lower health care costs for achieving healthy results.
We work proactively to better understand the diverse needs of the people of Michigan. Through relationships with culturally diverse community groups and through interaction with our members, we look to gather direct and deep insights.
This information helps guide us as we look to create new approaches and services tailored to best meet the needs of the diverse cultures we serve.

National health care reform
At BCBSM, we recognize the wide diversity of circumstances that people are in and how these circumstances affect their interaction with the health care system. We also recognize that changes resulting from national health care reform will have an equally broad range of effects.
Understanding these differences is critical to creating solutions that serve all the people of Michigan. BCBSM values and seeks input from many perspectives to lead to the best solutions and results for Michigan's health care system.
We will work with many diverse groups in implementing reform and related programs and stand by the goal of informing the people of Michigan and fostering understanding of the changes stemming from reform.
