With few exceptions, your prescriptions must be filled at network retail or mail-order pharmacies in order for your prescription drugs to be covered. In Michigan about 95 percent of pharmacies are network pharmacies. Nationwide, more than 70 percent of pharmacies are in our network, including most chains. This directory includes preferred and non-preferred network pharmacies. You may pay a lower copay at a preferred pharmacy.
Generally, Prescription Blue only covers drugs filled at an out-of-network pharmacy in these situations:
- If the prescription is related to care for a medical emergency or urgently needed care
- If you are traveling within the U.S. — outside the plan's service area — and become ill, or lose or run out of your drugs
- If there are no network pharmacies within reasonable driving distance that provide 24-hour service
- If your covered drug is not regularly stocked at a network pharmacy
In these situations, you will have to pay the full cost (rather than paying just your co-payment) when you fill your prescription at an out-of-network pharmacy. You can ask us to reimburse you for our share of the cost by submitting a paper claim form. Before you fill a prescription at an out-of-network pharmacy, please contact us to see if there is a network pharmacy available.
