Small-Group Director Selection Council

Who is eligible to apply for a council seat?
You must be a BCBSM small-group subscriber or member enrolled through a group with fewer than 150 subscribers. If you're not sure of your group size, please check with your employer, association or chamber.

What are the duties and qualifications of a council member?
There are three members on the Small-Group Director Selection Council (Council II). Council II appoints three directors who represent small-group subscribers on the BCBSM board. Members are to meet and maintain the same qualifications required of directors, primarily status as a small-group subscriber with BCBSM.

The council is responsible for the solicitation of small-group subscriber candidates for the board. The council uses any method deemed necessary for solicitation as long as it reasonably maximizes subscriber participation.

How are council members appointed and what is the term of office?
The board of directors appoints council members to a two-year term.

How often does the council meet and where?
The council meets approximately four to six times per year, primarily in the BCBSM Service Center in Detroit. Council members must provide their own transportation.

Is there remuneration for serving?
Council members are paid a fee for each meeting attended. Members also receive reimbursement for any travel and meeting-related expenses.
