Specialty Drugs

What are specialty drugs?

Specialty drugs are prescription medications that require special handling, administration, or monitoring. These drugs are used to treat complex, chronic and often costly conditions, including:

  • Asthma
  • Cancer
  • Chronic kidney failure
  • Hepatitis C
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Infertility
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Organ transplants
  • Osteoporosis
  • Psoriasis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis

How do I order specialty drugs?

If your medication is included in the specialty drug list (PDF), you can:

  • Get your prescription drugs delivered to your home by mail ordering them through Option Care, our specialty drug vendor. Download the Option Care order form (PDF) for ordering instructions, or call Option Care at 866-515-1355 to order.
  • Fill your prescription at a retail pharmacy. Not all pharmacies will dispense specialty drugs, so call your pharmacy to verify that they will fill your prescription.
